A Conversation with a Taurus Friend

A long time ago I had a conversation with a  (very) Taurus friend about her Taurean nature. “You must love nature”, I said. “Not really”, she replied, “I prefer shopping”.

In the moment, I was taken aback, “How could any Taurus not love nature? How could any person not love nature?”

But over the years, as I became more seasoned (aka as “old”), I came to the shocking (cue ‘making fun of self’ tone here) realization, that  people actually do have different values, even though they may share similar astrological signs and signatures.

Uranus has been traveling through Taurus since 2018, and I don’t know about you, but my life and values sure have changed since then. I’ve also noticed a collective awakening around values over the last 6 years. For some, this has meant BIG LIFE CHANGES as they have re-defined what matters. Others have doubled down on long held values-aligning their lives more closely with what is important to them.

Of course, the Covid pandemic played a defining role, shocking many of us into a new awareness of how we were living our lives and helping us identify what needed to change.

Taurus at its core, cares about what can be experienced through the senses. If you enjoy:

Touching

Tasting

Seeing

Hearing

Smelling

or Feeling it-then, from the Taurus perspective, it has value. For some Taurus folks, this means nature, for others it is art, food or music. And for some it means, (yes, I see you) shopping:).

Taurus’ ability to enjoy the senses grounds and roots Taurus in the present moment, amplifying gratitude and contentment. This ability is the Astro Superpower of the sign of the Bull.

As we approach tomorrow’s New Moon in Taurus (exact 5/7/24 at 9:22 pm MDT), you will have an opportunity to pause and appreciate what is present in your life. What do you experience through your senses that brings you peace, calm, ease and comfort? No shame, no judgment, just a moment to assess what it is that YOU value and appreciate.

This very earthy, earth sign and Venus ruled New Moon forms a loose stellium (a cluster of planets) with Venus, Jupiter and Uranus.

This means we have 5 planets (two “benefics”) all lined up in the earthy realm of “La Dolce Vida”. What a time to wallow in the gratitude of life! Count your blessings, feel your earthy animal human self, smell the flowers, buy or make something beautiful, eat a delicious meal, create, LIVE!

This is also a great time to do earthy magic…

Here are some ideas to get you started:

*Make an altar dedicated to the spirit of earth (think green candles, salt, stones, spring flowers, earth mama figures)

*Create a sacred feast

*Ritually honor the land you live on (thank and bless the land spirits, ancestors, plants, animals)

As I move away from having a presence on social media, I’ve been enjoying exploring my own Taurus side this season, feeling drawn more and more to hands on creative expression. After 25 years, I’ve reconnected to my love for middle eastern dance and drumming and started taking doumbek  and belly dance lessons again.

Back in the late 90’s , when I lived in San Francisco, I took doumbek drumming lessons with the amazing Mary Ellen Donald and belly dance classes with Jill Parker. It was a scary thing for a deaf person to embark on this kind of “sound adventure”, but I loved it. It helped me connect to the physical realm in a more tangible, pleasurable way.

Low and behold the magic of life: first,  a belly dance class suddenly popped up in the small Northern New Mexico town where I now live. Next, a drum teacher  appeared somewhat mysteriously out of the ethers.

Egged on by this serendipity, I decided to finally sign up for a print making class with a wonderful local treasure:  Fat Crow Press.

So  this past Saturday I spent the day creating some physical manifestations of my love for the celestial realm. With the Sun, Venus, Jupiter and Uranus in Taurus and the Moon in Pisces (the sign of Venus’ exaltation) I created block prints of Venus’ cycle. Her cosmic geometry as she moves through her 8 year cycle, forming one of the most ancient and sacred symbols: the five pointed star, the 5 petaled flower, the Golden Ratio.

I am not sure how many more of the Venus prints (pictured above)  I will make, so for now I’m calling these “limited edition”. I am offering them as a gift for the first 8 people who book a full length consultation or a subscription to a Pathfinder Package in May. I have 4 paper prints and four fabric prints available. I may also offer this design in the future hand printed on t-shirts if there is interest.

P.S. The Vesta Retreat in Hawaii sold out! We had a wonderful time connecting to the goddess of devotion, service and hearthkeeping. Here’s a pic of me post-retreat enjoying the Botanical garden in Honolulu
